Temporary home sweet home

We finally made it! We're mostly unpacked, ate some mac n' cheese, and mostly have the sleeping situation figured out. We're looking forward to tomorrow!

On the last leg!

2 hours 50 min to go!

Another great family!

2 for 2! We are staying with a very welcoming French couple. Very open and creative people. I always like conversing with people of other cultures. I also like to give my kids a broader view of the world. My goal is for my kids to know as many cultures as they want, so I can start world peace right here in our own family. The food was awesome too! :) Tomorrow nights dinner will be such a letdown after all of these great meals! Still I'm looking forward to being with my new group of friends this coming week!

Our new motto: Better late than never

Thankfully our next host is very tolerant of late arrivals. Anyway, we are here at Liberty Park. I'll update with the precise name later. The kids were so excited when they saw the New York City skyline. I'm going to attempt to take a picture of The Statue of Liberty for this post.

Stop one

Not all that interesting. Just about done, then on to My Organic Market for lunches, and Costco for gas. Then to view the Statue of Liberty.

At our first destination

We definitely made a great choice to Couch Surf. Our first host family is a most wonderful couple, mother-in-law, and two friendly and outgoing kids (well one kid, the other is a college student). Anyway, we had a vegan dinner (because the youngest kid wanted to go vegetarian and also wanted to check out being a vegan). It was wonderful! And that's coming from a meat and potatoes guy trying to go more towards vegetarian. Our wonderful host Carlos made the dinner (a plantain lasagna with brocolli and soy cheese on top with a side of blue and white roasted potatoes). Beyond the food, the conversations have been awesome. A very open minded family and just genuinely warm people. And Rhiannon is a big hit with them all! Alex fit right in with the college kid (they both are tech/science types). Corinne and I got along great with everyone and really enjoyed our conversations. Tomorrow we'll have breakfast with them and then be on our way. I'll post when I can or at the end of the day tomorrow as we have a big day ahead of us: One stop at a store in Tysons Corner, VA, then on to Liberty Park to view the Statue of Liberty, then to our next Couch Surfing host in Rye, NY (a french couple). I can't believe this is this precursor to Life Rocks! It's like Dayna's intentions have spread all the way down here! :)

Made up some time

So we'll be arriving around 7:30 instead of 8 like we originally thought. Thank goodness I have a wife with a lead foot! :)
Kids did amazingly well. Rhiannon used my iPad and listened to one story CD. Alex used his iPod Touch the whole time. Corinne and I split the driving.
